Craig Oyler is a multi-season/multi-species angler who travels across the midwest chasing the next big bite. His passion for educating anglers led him to start Hooked on Hardwater, which partners 60 underprivileged boys from the Rapid City Club for Boys with 60 professional ice fishermen from across the country for a day of mentoring, fellowship, ice fishing, and fun.

Josh Bertrand is a professional angler from Arizona who made the haul up to Lake Oahe for an Elite Series showdown. He figured out South Dakota's smallies enough to take 8th overall, but had one memorable fish that didn't even help him at the weigh-in.

Boyd Duckett is a Bassmaster Classic champion from Guntersville, Alabama. He found himself fishing on championship Monday on Lake Oahe in Pierre, So. Dak. on July 2, 2018 in the hunt for the Elite Series title. Lake Oahe gave him a chance to seal the deal, but the big green South Dakota smallies had other plans.

In 2002, Jens Lund came to Pierre, SD contracted to do an oral history project about the Lewis and Clark expedition, interviewing people all the way along the Missouri River. His task was to talk with people who have lived on the river and utilized it to create a sustainable income. His interview with legendary fishing guide and angling innovator, Bob Propst Sr. was one of the best. Ron Friedman doesn't claim to be an angler, but has a great fishing story. He and his buddy Steve went looking for Oregon salmon and beat the odds by each catching the same fish.

A few weeks back, the South Dakota Deaf Anglers were holding their annual tournament on the shores of Lake Oahe near Pierre. The Fishing Crew founder Curt Underhill helped me get in touch with his childhood friend and group member Paul Fosheim for a chat while they fished for northerns in Cow Creek. I learned a lot from this passionate group of anglers, and had a blast chatting with them for a few hours.

Brad Beeler always loved fishing in Pierre, but when job change brought him here permanently, he eventually put his fishing to work for him full time. Walleyes, salmon, smallies, northerns and everything else that swims in the Missouri is in his repertoire.

"Caster" Don Polovich is a fly angler from Rapid City, S.D. He told me about his childhood in Michigan while fishing below the Oahe dam on a unseasonably warm December morning.

DeWitt Clinton Booth, or “D.C.” as he insisted on?being called, came to South Dakota in 1899 to become the youngest hatchery superintendent in the country. What he created has become the gem of a community, and an archive of fisheries knowledge.  His legacies lives on through an ever-expanding fisheries archive, active youth activities, 150,000+ visitors each year, and fish production/stocking within South Dakota and beyond.  Visit the D.C. Doug "Duke" Seiner is a lifelong angler from Mitchell South Dakota.   He's also my dad.  He is one of those dads who goes above and beyond to make sure everyone has a good experience.  You know, the kind of dad who would create/host outdoor events, make trophies, take you out of school early to go hunting fishing and sometimes (albeit unknowingly) embarrass you in front of a crowd.  Another thing he has always been good at is telling stories. Fish Stories is about family, friends, and the anglers we care about. Samson Boutchee and his uncle Johnny have bonded through hunting and fishing. Johnny has been a mentor to Samson throughout his life, and continues to offer advice and wisdom today. We sat down in Samson's man cave before a day of chasing South Dakota pheasants to talk fishing and tell fishing stories. This is what it's all about!!
