In 2013, her husband, Jim Hudson, passed away after falling through the ice while ice fishing. I had the pleasure of meeting Kenneth Kieser at the 2018 Association of Great Lakes Outdoors Writers conference in Bismarck, ND. A 40+ year career, along with many thousands of published articles and books have only fueled his passion for outdoor communication and education.

Boyd Duckett is a Bassmaster Classic champion from Guntersville, Alabama. He found himself fishing on championship Monday on Lake Oahe in Pierre, So. Dak. on July 2, 2018 in the hunt for the Elite Series title. Lake Oahe gave him a chance to seal the deal, but the big green South Dakota smallies had other plans.

Craig Mickelson is a realtor from Aberdeen, S.D. He is also an avid angler fishing almost 200 days in a good year. Craig told us a story about catching a big drum in an unexpected place, and chatted with us a bit about being a responsible angler and business person. Cameo by Casey Weismantel himself.

A few weeks back, the South Dakota Deaf Anglers were holding their annual tournament on the shores of Lake Oahe near Pierre. The Fishing Crew founder Curt Underhill helped me get in touch with his childhood friend and group member Paul Fosheim for a chat while they fished for northerns in Cow Creek. I learned a lot from this passionate group of anglers, and had a blast chatting with them for a few hours.

Buddy Seiner is the founder of Fish Stories. This is the story about the largest walleye he has ever caught, and the fight he had later with his conscience. Recorded on his smartphone to prove that it can be done by anyone.

Jim Mollison has been fishing for nearly 80 years. He's learned a thing or two during that time, and has some great memories on the water. We sat down with Jim to share some of those memories and learn about what makes him so passionate about the sport we all love.

In 2009 Scott Brewer, Kyle Agre, Curt Brewer and John Dickelman ventured north of the border to ice fish Lake Winnipeg for the first time. It was an adventure from the start and would lead to many more trips to 'Big Windy' and many more memorable adventures. It was also the start to some incredible friendships with the folks in the WAAM (Walleye Anglers Association of Manitoba) club including an annual tradition between FM Walleyes Unlimited and WAAM in holding their Lake Winnipeg Ice Fishing Excursion, bringing 200+ anglers to the big lake for a gathering full of comeraderie, fun and fishing.

Steph grew up fishing. He often took his brother, and his brother's friend along for the adventure. Chad was that friend, and now he and Steph are good fishing buds.

Ranel Kommits is one of the top ranked ice anglers in Estonia. He was competing in his first ever World Ice Fishing Championships this year (2018) in Kazakhstan. We had some time to chat while he was catching big bream during the final official practice day to hear about Ranel's ice fishing career and some stories from the championship.

Charlie Moore spent many years as a professional angler. When the industry began to get the best of him, he decided to get back to what was truly important in his life.

Hank Patterson is a larger-than-life character who doesn't give a heck about anyone but himself.  Hank's a beer-drinking, fish catching, lady swooning machine...and he knows it.  That's the character that Travis Swartz gets to play in his videos.  In real life, he's a low-key guy with a past filled with comedy and fishing adventure.  We had a great conversation at the Alex Johnson in Rapid City.  I challenge you not to laugh during the discussion...pretty sure you'll lose.  Good luck!

The Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame and Museum is dedicated to preserving and displaying historical artifacts of the freshwater fishing community. Emmett Brown, executive director, told me how it all began.
